The conference was anchored by Comrade Blessing Edem who is the President and Founder of Blessed Impact Foundation, and also the First Female Ambassador, Nigerian Library Association, Akwa Ibom State. Other key officials included the Director of Academic Affairs of the students Union, University of Uyo (Comrade Theresa Ukam), Treasurer of the students’ union government University of Uyo, Comrade Uduak Abasi Mathias, President of Akwa Ibom Female Students Association, Worldwide, Rt.Hon.Ruth Ibok the Deputy Speaker, Faculty of Education, University of Uyo,Comrade Itoro Archibong Faculty of Arts Women Leader and other key officials who occupy various positions in student leadership.
On matters of importance Comrade Obong-odu Samuel President of the Association made known that the conference was aimed at looking forward to boost the associations’ impact on the University Community and also on the general notion and development of female student / female student leaders.
Female Student Leaders Association Matters
The Vice President of University of Uyo Students Union/ President-Female Student Leaders Association (Comrade Obong-odu Samuel) made known that the association is open to new ideas from all female students/ leaders present and absent in regards to building the association, and also that all members need to be very active in relations to realization of the goals and growth of the association.
The Director of Academics of the students’ union government (Comrade Theresa Ukam) in her speech solicited for unity and support from all female students and female leaders within and outside the university community to move forward in togetherness as a team to see to the success of the association goals.
In the bid to create a more embracing association, decisions were met to reach out to all Vice Presidents of all the department and faculties in the university community. Through which these vice presidents will create a sub female students’ forum in their jurisdiction to create a more encompassing association as was suggested by Enobong Edward.
In the conference, female students/ female students’ leaders said that they would not be sidelined in regards to their civic rights as they all have their PVC’s. They promised to participate and vote in the coming polls in the country.
The association concluded that it will support any government that gives priority to education and the well-being of students in the state and country as a whole.
The association FSLA as in their agenda agreed to carry out an enlightenment programme for female students and leaders in the University Community to improve and boost their skills and ability with regards to everyday life and in leadership.
On the closing, the conference came to its end with a very positive proposition that in the coming university students’ union government election polls that it will record the victory of a female student as the president, all participants of the conference were charged to see this proposition as their personal projects, most importantly major emphasis was placed on the unity and support of all females in the university for the realization of this proposition.
The Vice President of University of Uyo Students Union/ President-Female Student Leaders Association (Comrade Obong-odu Samuel), commended the effort of the federal government in tackling the matter of the educational sector with regards to the suspension of the ASUU strike which lasted for Three Months.
The conference took its close as the Honorary Special Assistant to the Vice President- Students Union Government, University of Uyo in person of Comrade Damilola gave the vote of thanks.
