The Presidency received with sadness the news of the attack on the Female hostel- hall 6 which left our beloved sister, ‘Favour” with a head injury, and a few others looted and wounded at the early hours of Monday, the 30th of July 2019. The Vice chancellor and representatives of the Students’ union paid a visit to the victims.
In response to the situation the Presidency approached the security unit to both lay complaints and offer suggested solutions centered wholy on the recommendations of the Student community security wing.
The attention of the Students’ desk, State Security Service, Intelligence officer University of uyo, and Deputy Vice chancellor administration amongst other members of the management was drawn by the Presidency to the “we’ll be back” statements allegedly made by the suspects, all, pledging to get to the root and ahead of the situation.
At the early hours of the 1st of August 2019, our attention was drawn to a similar incident, which fueled the peaceful agitation by our beloved female students. While I apologize for the breach in security, I make bold to say that your security is our utmost concern, and as such, armed security officials as is evident on campus now have been deployed by the Management to keep our students safe.
The Presidency paid an all important visit to the affected hostel to get reports on the current state of the affected victims, show solidarity and to confirm the state of affairs from the Leadership of the hostel.
In strong terms and even more audaciously, the entirety of the Union under my Leadership condemns totally, the actions of these criminal minds, we frown at such malicious attempts to destabilize our security, our safety as a people. We ask the Management again, to step in, make conscious and result oriented efforts to protect the lives of our students which she holds in trust as our welfare remains their utmost duty.
I thank the Student community for engaging in a peaceful rather than destructive agitation. I, by extension thank the State Government for the helping hand extended to us in this trying times, and all NANS comrades who indeed placed the security of her students first. I salute the effort Management body, for bringing a solution to our security breaches. Lastly, I thank God, who, contrary to speculations has preserved the life of our beloved lady Favour even as I wish her a speedy and complete mental and physical recovery.
This I believe is the end to our security breaches. Victory is Certain
