At the conclusion of the state executive council meeting held today Friday, 18th September, 2020, the commissioner for Information in the state while addressing the media announced the resolutions reached by the council with respect to school resumption.
The commissioner made it known that primary schools in the state will be open for pupils in Primary 6 or Primary 5 as the case may be only both public and private on the Monday, 21st September, 2020. This is to enable them to prepare for the statewide common entrance examination/first school leaving certificate examination.
A conclusion was also reached that public secondary schools in the state can begin processes towards resumption on Monday, 28th September, 2020. Their private counterparts are to start preparations towards resumption on 21st of September, 2020. Private schools have been advised to communicate with parents of their wards in preparation for resumption so as to ensure compliance with COVID-19 protocols.
Tertiary institutions in the state were given the following dates for resumption: Akwa Ibom State University will resume on Monday, 21st of September, 2020; Akwa Ibom State polytechnic will resume on Monday, 5th October, 2020 while Akwa Ibom State College of Education will resume on Monday, 21st September, 2020. Full academic activities are expected to commence in these Institutions.
The release gave no concrete information on if the classes will hold in batches or what plans are being put in place to ensure social distancing but serious assurance was given that strict procedures will be taken to ensure compliance with already existing COVID-19 protocols and new ones will be made if necessary.
No details was given for other other classes in the primary section also. We’ll keep you posted as things develop.
