University of Uyo Students Protect Hike in Food Prizes in Cafeteria

Students of University of Uyo today protested the hike in food prizes in the school’s Cafeteria. Food in the school’s cafeteria used to go for 250 naira but upon resumption today after the 2021 Christmas and New Year holidays, students of the institution met an increase in the cost of food at the cafeteria. School at the cafeteria is now going for 300 naira at the cafeteria. The hike according to food vendors in the cafeteria is due to the high cost of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) and other things they use in food preparation including foodstuffs.

Over the last two years cost of food has been steadily on the rise from as low as 150 naira the cost is now double what it was two years ago. The cafeteria is believed to have its prices regulated by the school management, so the sudden hike is not favourable to students. It’s supposed to be a cheaper alternative to the restaurants in campus.
